Start early enough to eat. Around nine, a cocktail somewhere with a serious bartender. Then music: a jazz room, a live band, or a DJ if the energy is there. Amsterdam clubs fill late, so there is no rush. A late bite after, then home, wherever home is this week.

Pick a lane or mix them. A jazz night means a small room, a set that starts late and a drink that lasts the whole thing. A club night means a queue, a coat check and a floor that gets good after one. A bar night means walking, three or four stops, and choosing the next one on the pavement.
